Two ways across: the Causeway and the Second Link
There are two land crossings between Johor and Singapore. The Johor–Singapore Causeway connects Johor Bahru city centre to Woodlands, and is the most direct route for anyone starting in JB town. The Malaysia–Singapore Second Link connects Gelang Patah to Tuas in western Singapore, and is often the better choice if you are coming from Iskandar Puteri, Legoland or the west of Johor.
Which one is faster depends on the day. Our drivers check live traffic before every trip and pick the crossing with the shorter queue.
Documents to prepare
Before you leave home, make sure every traveller has the following ready:
- A passport that is valid for at least 6 months from the date of travel.
- Any digital arrival declaration required for your nationality, such as Singapore's SG Arrival Card.
- Visa approval if your nationality requires one.
- Your accommodation address or meeting address in Singapore.
Entry rules change from time to time. Always confirm the latest requirements on the official Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website before you travel.
The best time to cross
Weekday early mornings and evenings are busy with daily commuters, while Friday evenings, weekends, school holidays and public holidays on either side of the border bring the longest queues. If your schedule is flexible, mid-morning and early afternoon on weekdays are usually the smoothest.
Flying out of Changi? Leave a generous buffer for the checkpoint on top of normal airport check-in time.
Bus, taxi or private transfer?
Public buses are the cheapest option but require you to get off at both checkpoints with your luggage and re-board afterwards. That is fine for a solo traveller with a backpack, but tiring for families, elderly passengers or anyone with suitcases.
With a private transfer, you stay seated in the same car from your door in Johor Bahru to your destination in Singapore — whether that's Changi Airport, a hotel, a cruise terminal or an office. For groups, splitting the cost of an MPV is often surprisingly competitive.
